Unlike the haters out there, I want a beef stuffed tortilla blanketed with melted cheese every once in a while. Sometimes I am in the mood for tortilla chips lathered in some kind of melted processed cheese. And, if I am in the mood for this type of food, I will probably think of Romeo's first. With that being said, their version of Mexican food is not why I like going to Romeo's. I think of Romeo's as a pizza place first and as a Mexican restaurant second. While I do not think their pizza is the best in town, it's quality is way above average. The Romeo's Special Pizza (their take on a supreme pizza) is very good. Also, I thought their cheese pizza was worth getting. I plan on trying their other options, like the shrimp and taco pizzas, in the near future because I am confident that they are tasty.
As far as the "Mexican" food goes, it is no better or worse than most other American style Mexican restaurants. If I had to choose a favorite of the non-pizza entrees, I would recommend their enchiladas with red sauce. I have never taken a bite at Romeo's and thought "This is disgusting!". But at the same time, I have never declared their food to be the best in the world. Maybe that is why I kind of like Romeo's. When you are in the mood for this type of food you can count on Romeo's to deliver. Their prices are not too high, the service is usually adequate, and you know what you are going to get.
Again, I am not claiming that Romeo's is an outstanding place to eat. I am telling you that Romeo's fills a much needed role in our society. They provide melted cheese entrees for those of us that shamefully admit we cannot go cold turkey without them. Besides, do not visit Romeo's for just the "Mexican" food. Go there for the pizza. At least tell people that is why you go, if cannot admit that you have a melted-cheese-entree dependence like the rest of us.

MY RATING (out of 10):
6 (++++++++++)

Beef and bean sancho with cheese is my favorite. Very Americanized Mexican but delish.
ReplyDeleteThe Tacorito is solid. Try the green chili on the sancho. I actually use the green chili for chip dipping. It's tasty.
ReplyDeleteIf you like mexican f\oof, you should try Mexican restaurant in Omaha in the name of Julios. They offer service with a personality, quality food in large portions at a good price....Do visit them.
ReplyDeleteMy best bud and I have been visiting the Romeo's in downtown Omaha for over 20 years, although we have frequented other locations. I love the downtown atmosphere in the evening. Never crowded, just kick back and relaxed. We go for the pizza and margaritas. Romeo's food is moderately good for a very fair price. I've never had a meal that was of poor quality, and the service is always good.
